Holland in Not was the first Surplus Stock LP. Robert Giddens produced the first DAF recordings at Cargo Studio in Rochdale. The recordings for Holland In Not took place there in April 1980. Now 43 years later, it’s available on all streaming services. Available on September 1, 2023.

L-R: SURPLUS STOCK 1979-80: Robert Giddens, Phil Renshaw and Robert Clarke, Josef Schenk is missing here.

Surplus Stock are from Artland in Germany. Robert is English, from London. He produced DAF and recorded their first single in Rochdale. Before that, Giddens had written about German bands for the English music mag Zig Zag. Surplus Stock’s best track may be „Let’s Kill Each Other“ from the German compilation „Fix Planet“. Maybe they are the inventors of the term „Minimal“ for this kind of music.
